Old Business
- Recap of Waterways bike event. Bike ride went well on the historic route. Thirteen people plus Officer Back rode. Eastham Police were very cooperative. Timing was not optimal, later in the day would draw more riders although there may be conflicts with other activities. John Fallender of Orleans came and brought t-shirts for participants. The possibility of joining Orleans next year was discussed without decision. Just two children came but had a good experience. It was suggested that the event remain on the roads rather than the Rail Trail.
- Bike Maintenance event. There were about twelve people in attendance. It went very well. The presenter from Idle Times was a good speaker. There was a free raffle of a bike mirror donated by Carol Dobek. Having this event earlier in the season was discussed as was offering the event to another Bike Shop, without decision.
- Retaining wall. No action has been taken.
New Business
- Americorps Rail Trail clean up application is prepared and ready for submission in August with addition of contact person..
- Lois mentioned that the only online complaint about the Rail Trail in Eastham is riding past the transfer station. It was suggested that something should be planted along the fence to block the view.
- Lois suggested that we keep in touch with highway surveyors.
- The sidewalk along Route 6 has been cleaned.
- Problems with signage along the Rail Trail and walking on the right or left were discussed. It was reiterated that DCR will not allow signs that are not included in the state sign manual..
- Mass Bike Group will meet June 3 at 8 am at Hearth and Kettle in Orleans. Kathy will attend.
The Committee thanked Kathy Herrick and Lois Roth-Johnson for their outstanding service.
The Committee will meet next on 6 July 2011.
